USCAP Foundation Announces Establishment of the Bonsib Family Travel Fund to Advance Global Pathology

PALM SPRINGS, CA — The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) today announced a generous philanthropic commitment from Dr. Stephen Bonsib and Mrs. Christine Bonsib, establishing The Bonsib Family Travel Fund within the USCAP Foundation. The Fund reflects the Bonsib family’s long-standing commitment to advancing global pathology by supporting pathologists from under-resourced countries.

The Bonsib Family Travel Fund will provide two travel grants annually, each in the amount of $3,000, to support attendance at the USCAP Annual Meeting. Administered through the Foundation’s Global Partner Travel Award Program, the grants, known as The Bonsib Family Travel Grants, will help offset travel and lodging costs, enabling international pathologists to participate in USCAP’s premier educational meeting and engage with the global pathology community.

The Fund aligns with the Foundation’s mission to promote global health, and reflects the donors’ interest in supporting a fellow or junior faculty member with an interest or emerging focus in renal pathology, while continuing to provide meaningful opportunities for Global Partner applicants across subspecialties through a fair and merit-based selection process.

The Bonsib Family Travel Fund was established through a generous philanthropic gift to provide perpetual support for travel grants. Dr. Bonsib, a retired Renal and Urologic Pathologist and longtime USCAP member, has demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing the field on a global scale. The first two Bonsib Family Travel Grants have been awarded for the 2026 Annual Meeting in San Antonio, and the Fund will continue to support two travel grants each year going forward.

Since 2009, the USCAP Foundation has served as the Academy’s philanthropic arm, supporting education, global health initiatives, and workforce development in pathology. Through programs such as the Global Partner Travel Award Program, the Foundation works to expand access to knowledge and foster collaboration among pathologists worldwide.
