  •   Recognize the clinical and morphological spectrum of melanoma.
  •   Apply a pattern-based approach to the differential diagnosis of melanoma.
  •   Integrate clinical findings, histologic features, and immunohistochemistry for proper diagnosis.

8:00 - 11:30 Inflammatory Disorders of the Gastrointestinal Tract: Similarities and Differences Between Adult and Pediatric Disease - Jeffrey Goldsmith and Robert M. Najarian (Salon A-F)
Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  •   Describe the normal distribution of eosinophils in the luminal gastrointestinal tract.
  •   Review and distinguish the various eosinophilic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract using clinical, endoscopic, and histologic criteria.
  •   List and discuss the diarrheal illnesses that are nearly exclusive to the pediatric population.
  •   Describe the histologic appearances, differential diagnosis, and clinical presentation of 'microscopic colitis' in both adults and children.
  •   Review the classic histologic features of celiac disease and its differing clinical presentations and histologic mimics in adults and children.
  •   Compare the clinical and histologic features of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and contrast these with atypical clinical and histologic features seen especially in the pediatric population.

  •   Review current diagnostic criteria for Hodgkin lymphoma.
  •   Describe benefits and pitfalls of diagnosing lymphoproliferative disorders with small needle biopsies.
  •   Apply a diagnostic approach to small B cell lymphoma using morphology and appropriate ancillary studies.
  •   Review lymphomas that present in the gastrointestinal tract.
  •   Evaluate current approaches to large B cell lymphoma and the use or prognostic studies.
