—  COMPANION SOCIETY MEETINGS  —

The Academy jointly sponsors the programs of the following Companion Meeting Societies which have been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) by the societies and the USCAP. The Academy is Accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

There is a continuing influx of new information needed for the practice of pathology. The objective of the jointly sponsored Companion Meetings is to present a forum for the expression of sub-specialties in pathology and to bring to the participants, through a symposium mechanism, the latest in science information and practice in these particular areas of expertise. The Companion Meetings bring to the participants the latest information from pathology sub-specialties regarding utilizing newly acquired information, recent technical advances and new or updated concepts. These jointly sponsored meetings serve to supplement the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology meetings and do not duplicate the various aspects of the Academy program. The Academy serves pathology in a broad sense by supplying logistical and other support for these sub-specialty society programs.

Handouts for Companion Society symposia will be placed on the USCAP website at least two weeks before the Annual Meeting and they will remain online after the meeting. This allows attendees to view and print the handouts in the comfort of their own home or office prior to, during, or after the meeting. Paper handouts are not be distributed at the meeting. A booklet containing an agenda for each Companion Society symposia and a list of speakers is provided. We feel this will meet the needs of those we serve in a way that makes sense by using electronic tools to make the information available at their convenience on their own computer. Handouts accessible online, anytime, anywhere!
