The topic was chosen by the Educational Committee of the Binford-Dammin Society. The topic deals with a scientifically interesting and clinically important issue, i.e. the role of infectious human viruses in the cause of cancer. Tumor viruses have evolved mechanisms not only for infecting human tissues but also to transform infected cells. In some cases, transformation leads to malignancy. The speakers, each one of them an internationally recognized expert, will review the mechanism of virus transformation, the pathology and epidemiology of related malignant disease, and the role of pathology in viral detection and tumor diagnosis.
